9 Seattle-Made Foods for a Picnic

Seattle is a city dotted with 485+ parks ranging from sunset views at Golden Gardens Park to the wooded pathways of Seward Park — and that doesn't include the hundreds of additional parks you'll find in nearby Bellevue, Redmond, Woodinville, and beyond. When the summer weather cooperates, you'll find locals and visitors alike heading to all these spaces to make the most of our parks system and soak up our beautiful summers.

If you're headed out to enjoy a local park, we've put together a list of some of our favorite locally-made picnic items to sip and snack in the sun. So, break out the picnic basket (or backpack) and get ready for a picnic — and don't forget the picnic blanket!

Rainier Cherries

Named after Mount Rainier, the towering peak that dominates the Seattle skyline, Rainier cherries are a true gem of the Pacific Northwest. These beautiful, blush-colored cherries are known for their juicy sweetness, making them a prized delicacy among cherry lovers and perfect picnic snack.

Cheese board with chocolate for a Seattle picnic in the Pacific Northwest

Cheese Board

A cheese board is one of those foods that feels special but can be so simple to put together. Pack a board, a few cheeses from Beecher's Handmade Cheese, crackers, dried fruit, and almonds for a quick snack that will impress your fellow picnickers.

Coro Salami

Coro Salami blends the traditions of Italian charcuterie with local Pacific Northwest flavors. Made from locally sourced, premium pork and seasoned with a blend of aromatic spices, Coro Salami is a great addition to a cheese platter or delightful on its own.

Sandwich

If this one seems like a shortcut, it's because it is. What could be easier than stopping by a local grocery store like PCC Community Markets or Town & Country Markets to pick up a pre-made sandwich? We're partial to the Skagit Chicken Sandwich from PCC, but fortunately they have a variety of options made with local ingredients.

Tim's Cascade Potato Chips

If you've got a sandwich, why not add a side of potato chips? Tim's Cascade Potato Chips are a Northwest favorite with classic flavors such as sea salt or salt and vinegar.

Rachel's Ginger Beer

Quench your thirst with the refreshing flavors of Rachel's Ginger Beer. Originally a farmer's market sensation, this local favorite has expanded to become a beloved beverage brand. With flavors like Original, Blood Orange, and White Peach, Rachel's Ginger Beer makes for delightful standalone refreshment or a fantastic base for creative cocktails. Consider mixing it with fresh fruit juices or adding a splash to your favorite spirit for a fun picnic drink.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine

Complete your picnic experience with a bottle of world-class wine from Chateau Ste. Michelle, Washington state's oldest winery. Located just a short drive outside Seattle, this esteemed winery offers a range of varietals, including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The crisp whites and rosés produced by Chateau Ste. Michelle are especially refreshing on a hot summer day.

Jonboy Caramels

Indulge in the buttery goodness of Jonboy Caramels during your picnic. These artisan caramels are made with high-quality ingredients, including locally sourced cream and butter. They offer a range of flavors, such as key lime with sea salt, espresso, and fleur de sel.

Theo Chocolate

Satisfy your sweet tooth with Seattle-based Theo Chocolate, the first organic, fair trade, bean-to-bar chocolate factory in the United States. Their chocolates come in a variety of flavors, from classic dark chocolate to unique combinations like the "PNW Coffee & Cream" bar.

By incorporating these Seattle local products into your picnic, you'll not only support local businesses but also soak up all things Pacific Northwest in your outdoor gathering. Next time the sun comes out from behind the clouds, hit the park with the flavors and spirit of the Pacific Northwest and savor the taste of our local culinary scene.
